Doug Kasper began a one man operation in 1990 named "D&K Remodeling", which focused on apartment maintenance and remodeling.  As the operation grew, it added services such as installing built-in appliances for two Madison stores.  This service expanded to kitchen and bathroom remodeling, and then to basement finishing and remodeling.  It was a natural expansion then from remodeling existing structures to building new additions, too.

In the year 2000, Doug Kasper and his future wife moved to Pardeeville, Wisconsin, where they bought an existing ranch house.  The realtor who sold them the house had a son who was looking for a trim carpenter with a lot of remodeling experience.  Doug then worked with him in a company called "Homes For You Custom Homes" as a trim carpenter.  After trimming several homes, Doug began doing the framing, too.

"DJ Custom Framing" started from a joint venture between D&K Remodeling and Homes For You Custom Homes on February 15th in 2001.   That business was started for the purpose of erecting panelized homes.   About six months later, Doug Kasper, the current owner of DJ Custom Framing, Inc. split off in order to work with panelized home sets for Sterling Building Systems.  DJ Custom Framing enjoyed a good run with that association until the market for panelized houses slowed.

In 2004 D&K Custom Framing became a general contractor building new homes.  The owner, Doug Kasper, summed up the philosophy of his company with these words:
